Medicine for Malnutrition 2

Medicine for Malnutrition 2

This is a supplement to a video I have on YouTube, you can see that video here:

While some of the medicine requested by the part-time school kids were what we would typically call "medicine" (such as antibiotics and antacids), a lot of the medicine requested were just vitamin supplements. Given that 80% of Bangladesh earns less than $2 a day – it is often very hard for the poor to buy foods rich in vitamins (or sources of protein such as meat and fish). Vitamin deficiency – especially among children – is a common occurrence here.

Pallets of USDA food commodities served as a backdrop for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue and U.S. Senator Cory Gardner after a tour of the Food Bank of the Rockies’ USDA commodities warehouse, in Denver, Co., on June 19, 2020.
The Food Bank of the Rockies distributes to about 640 food pantries in Northern Colorado and Wyoming. This warehouse receives and distributes USDA foods for several USDA (FNS) Food and Nutrition Service programs: The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) a program for low-income seniors over 60, and the Food Purchase & Distribution Program (FPDP), part of trade mitigation. Additionally, the Food Bank of the Rockies works with three Farmers to Families Food Box distributors. This is one of two large Food Banks that receives USDA foods in Colorado.
