What is Putty Knife?
A spackle knife, is also commonly called a “putty knife”, and is used for scraping surfaces or spreading material such as plaster in various construction trades.
Width
Widths from 11⁄4″ to 5″ or 6″ are commonly available. Wider-bladed knives up to about 12″ are used for sheet rocking. Larger blades are made, but generally lack the stability of the smaller blades and do not make a perfectly flat surface.

MAINTENANCE
For putty knives that require light cleaning
Thoroughly wipe it down with a dampened wash cloth. If the putty residue proves somewhat stubborn, you may require the aid of a mild brand of soap. This method of cleaning is very effective in getting rid of putty residue that has not had ample time to dry.
For particularly dirty putty knives
You will require the aid of a stainless steel cleaner. Apply your cleaner to a clean washcloth or absorbent sponge and proceed to vigorously wipe your putty knife clean. If it’s been a while since the tool’s last cleaning, be prepared to put forth extra elbow grease. If properly, this method of cleaning will have your putty knife spotless and shining in no time.
