Citroen BX Break MkII (1986)

The Citroen BX is a mid-size family car launched by Citroen (now part of the PSA Group) in 1982.

The BX initially supplemented the GSA (a development of the GS), then replacing the model completely. The BX was one of the first vehicles developed in conjunction with Peugeot after Citroen was purchased into the PSA group. The BX was developed sharing platform and systems with the Peugeot 405.

The BX retained the oleo-pneumatic system of gas and oil suspension system first seen on the Citroen Traction Avant (ahead of the revolutionary DS), providing the BX with exceptional ride comfort for the vehicle segment. The BX was also very light for the class, enabling smaller engines to provide adequate to strong performance.

The BX Break wagon model was launched a year later in 1983. The model shown here is a BX MkII model, incorporating revisions seen in 1986, which included a dilution of some of the Citroen’s idiosyncrasies.

The BX was subsequently replaced by two cars, the larger Citroen Xantia (a combined project with the Peugeot 406), and the smaller Citroen ZX (paired with the Peugeot 306).
