DID YOU KNOW? The immune systems of people that have recovered from COVID-19 creates antibodies to fight the virus? These antibodies are found in plasma – the liquid part of the blood. Plasma with these infection-fighting antibodies is called "convalescent plasma." Plasma donated from recovered patients can be collected and transfused to a sick patient to provide a boost to the immune system and may help to expedite the recovery process.
The EBMS Project Team is currently working to implement the convalescent plasma product code into the EBMS systems, which will allow Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) to collect blood from known COVID-19 donors, test for antibodies to the virus, and track the units of plasma from the product testing and manufacturing phases through the shipment to MTFs or Civilian facilities as needed.
