I took Mercedes to the vet. IT is likely a form of ringworm, ie, a fungal infection in the hair follicle and skin (not bacterial as I thought). It’s because of the Prednisone suppressing her immune system. So I’m immediately weaning her off the prednisone, and she’s on tablets twice a day for the ringworm and topical lotion, for a month at least. I’m supposed to do all the cats in the household. I’m not. I’m doing Raphael as I suspect it’s starting on his ears a bit. But I’m not sure really.
The tablets have to be taken with a fatty meal for them to be absorbed. Of Course Mercedes isn’t keen on fatty lamb mince…of course she’s annoyed at having the tablet now twice a day, and I feel a bit despondent that I’m making her suffer with the treatment. But I’ll see how things go. I suspect she’s not going to eat the fatty mince at all, I’ll have to keep her hungry so she’ll go for it. The vet doesn’t have a lot of hope for her. He thinks it’s likely she’ll need to be put to sleep, he didnt’ want me to buy any more prednisone while i was there, as I still have 50 tablets, and I might have to put her to sleep if her paws go badly when I wean her off the prednisone.
Sorry about the poor quality of photo…I’ve been quite busy and I had to just accept what I could take where she was laying. I’ll try again for a better photo so you can see the skin condition.
