The Northern General group were enthusiastic users of the single-deck version of the Daimler Fleetline and purchased examples new with Alexander W-type and Willowbrook bodies during 1971/72. Also during 1972, Northern’s fleet of single deck Fleetlines was supplemented further with the addition of second-hand examples from Maidstone and District, which came to north east England in a vehicle swap in exchange for double decker Fleetlines.
In this June 1979 view, Northern General’s Willowbrook bodied Daimler Fleetline SRG6LX-36, 4241 (LCN507K), is seen at Sunderland’s old Park Lane Bus Station. Although it has its destination blinds set for local service 116 to Grindon (jointly operated with Tyne & Wear PTE) the 116 never actually served Park Lane Bus Station to my knowledge, so it is likely that the vehicle was either about to go out on that service or was returning to the depot at Park Lane which was located next to the bus station.
